While they still make a similar statement, there is a uniqueness that shows a little personality from each couple.

You can customize them with your wedding date, your names, and even a personal message on the inside. Here are a few layout and finish combinations other customers have ordered.

Product Spotlight: The Sophia Necklace - Horizontal Name Plate Necklace

I don't know about you but I'm always on the hunt for the perfect piece of jewelry, a piece I never want to take off. This necklace fits the description to a T. It goes with everything, is eye-catching and features my favorite little girls name :)

This design is so popular with our customers that we reference it constantly in the shop. Instead of saying 'horizontal name plate necklace' or 'flat rectangle charm necklace' we call it the 'Sophia Necklace'.  Small and sweet just like her.

While it is popular as is,  it's no surprise that customer ask for variations of the design.  Many have requested changes in length, material & adding diamond birthstones to their necklaces. If you have more text, you can opt for two lines or get your text centered rather than left of right justified.

If you have more than one name to feature, you can get two necklaces of varying lengths and plate sizes and wear them together.  The Ryan bar is a little longer than the Ava bar and the chain length is also a little longer.  When worn together, this makes for a very stunning look!

Personalized Rimmed Charm - Off Center Jewelry Design Layout

14K Gold Charm with name bottom right justified

A couple of small changes in a layout can make a design unique and something you can call your own. When customers want something simple but just a little different than the standard name centered in the middle of the charm we work with them to create a layout that meets their vision.

Silver name Charm with birthstones

These two charms are great examples of how off centering the name can create a clean but intriguing design. We justified the the names to the bottom right and placed them on an angle. The gold version is a 1/2" yellow gold charm with gold rim with a single name in our typewriter font.

The silver version is 5/8 Silver Charm with Silver Rim and Flush Set Stones. The flush set stone fills in the extra space by the shorter name very well.

Personalized Necklace for Relson Gracie - A Truely Custom Design

Running a small business takes a lot of focus. Andreas and I work hard every day to make great jewelry and grow our business. We are constantly presented with challenges from the fabrication to the business management. It takes a lot of gumption and fortitude.

Relson Gracie Necklace

Often my plate is full with just the creative work and Andreas will deal with escalated situations that may arise from time to time. I am always amazed at his resilience under pressure. While I am sure my support plays a big role, I know he is quick to credit his background in Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu as foundation for much of his success. If you saw the way they trained, you would understand why. He even met one of our first employees through training.

For the past several years Andreas has been training at a Relson Gracie Academy in the Savannah area. Mr. Gracie is the eldest son of the late Helio Gracie, the man credited with refining traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu into the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu we know today. Relson Gracie was the Brazilian National Champion for 22 years and has continued the development of Jiu Jistu in his father’s footsteps.

Today Reslon still dedicates his life to Jiu Jitsu and travels the world teaching his art. A couple of times a year Relson comes to Savannah to teach seminars and work directly with his students. On one of his visits we made him a custom Dog Tag Necklace to show our appreciation. The silver charm has Relsons Initials and a re-creation of his logo. The triangle is 14K gold. On the back is a thank you note and initials so he knows who it’s from.

Relson was elated to get such heart felt gift as a thank you. We hope to make some more great items for him in the future.

What Causes Silver Tarnish?

Now that we have a better understanding of what silver tarnish is, we can talk about what causes silver tarnish. The rate that silver tarnishes is a function of temperature, humidity, and chemical exposure. In general, if these factors are low, then you can reduce the amount of tarnish. Silver in cool & dry environments will tarnish slower than in high moisture.

As we mentioned before, silver sulfide is the main result of the silver tarnishing process. While moisture is required for the tarnishing reactions to take place and oxygen plays a role in the reaction that creates silver sulfide, hydrogen sulfide is the main culprit. If you come in contact with material that contains sulfide compounds and then get those on your silver items, you will see that silver tarnish. For example vegetables from the Allium genus like onions or garlic contain organic sulfur compounds that , while low in concentration, could contribute to tarnish.

From reading articles on various sites, the copper portion of sterling silver can create copper oxide or possibly copper sulfides. You can check out an interesting debate about copper tarnish on pennies at Finishing.com. From working with copper, I have seen it tarnish considerably faster that sterling silver. We have polished a piece of silver and a piece of copper, and the copper has tarnish on it sometimes in as little as under an hour. Fine silver tarnishes slower than sterling silver. Is the copper the reason sterling silver has the potential to tarnish more easily? There are definitely some more questions I have about how the two materials interact and tarnish in combination.

In addition, chemicals have an effect on the rate and amount of tarnish. Ever jump into a pool with your silver jewelry on? You may have found the silver tarnished fairly quickly and in some cases almost instantly. In this case the cause could be the chlorine content in combination with the acidity that produces a silver chloride. With personal care products for skin and hair, coupled with other fragrances we spray on, the list of potential contaminates that can effect tarnish can get pretty long.

Even our bodies can play a role. A lot of times you may hear people say that skin composition can effect the rate of tarnish, I think it really is the composition of a persons sweat. Perspiration is water containing sodium chloride, phosphate, urea, ammonia, ethereal sulfates, creatine, fats, and other waste products. Eww! Sounds gross, but it does highlight that our bodies are part of the equation. Your own perspiration composition changes with various factors such as diet, health, and hormones levels. I found another discussion on Finishing.com that talks about body chemistry and silver tarnish

The last thing we have observed is that tarnish begets tarnish. If you have a clean piece of silver that isn't tarnishing much and put it in contact with another tarnished item, the tarnishing seems to accelerate. We have seen this happen on necklaces. The tarnishing rate has increased on other cleaner charms and on the chain if it is sterling silver when the tarnished charm was added to the arrangement. I can't explain technically what's going on or the roll perspiration has, but it is something we've confirmed empirically.

Next we'll tackle the discussion of what can be done to clean and prevent tarnish.

2013 New Year's Resolution Jewelry Design

It's that time again...  reflect on the past year and think about what the future may bring. For many of us that includes making some resolutions and setting some goals. More often than I would like to admit, while my intentions are good, my execution falls short. I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's New Year’s Eve, the drinks are flowing and everyone is talking about their big resolution. It always seems to turn into a cornucopia of "one-upsmanship".  Lose a zillion lbs, run a mile every day for the rest of my life, become a yoga sifu, save the world....

The next morning (or afternoon ) you're at your local grease pit trying to subdue the damage from the night before, the resolution just a faint memory. It doesn't have to be that way. This year is going to be different.

To help me along with my resolutions and goals in 2013, I had Elisha make me a resolution key chain to ensure the commitments I make at midnight don't fade away. In the images below you can see the design I made using our online jewelry design software and the final product . I used a 1" silver charm and silver key chain ring. You can also retrieve the design with the online jewelry design software and make it your own.

Here are the things I put on my resolution key chain:

1. 2013 The year of success – In spite of all the negative vibes reverberating of the fiscal cliff chatter, I wrote this to remind me to be chronically optimistic this year.

 2. 20 lbs - Pretty obvious stuff here. Elisha is a good looking lady... gotta keep her interested ;-).

 3. 3x - Business growth goals. I know it’s a tall order, but I was born to dream big and achieve.

 4. Top 100K - That's the site ranking I want to get MetalPressions.com to.

 5. III - Jiu Jitsu - Keeping focused to get the third stripe on my blue belt. I seem to have let life side track my training. This year I want to get back to being competitive.

 6. 100% - Customer Satisfaction - That's what it's gonna take to get to 3x last year’s numbers!

 7. Greek - I know a little Greek and want to learn some more. Maybe even teach my kids some too with the help of Rosetta Stone.

 8. Shark Tank - We love the show and often daydream about being on it. I think we are going to apply to get on.

The key chain goes a little beyond your typical New Year’s Resolutions, but it is a fun way to remind yourself about what you want to achieve.
